As a medical student many years ago, Dr. Joung chose to specialize in the field of PM&R (Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation) because this field allowed him to focus not only on the patients' quantity of life, but also on the quality of life. Now as a fully licensed and practicing physician, he continues to faithfully follow his principle of improving patients' quality of life. Whether it is to restore mobility and independence after a stroke or spinal cord injury, to evaluate for proper assistive device and prosthetic needs, to manage spasticity, and to manage acute and chronic pain from a variety of causes, Dr. Joung focuses his evaluation and treatment on a patient's specific needs and goals to improve the quality of life. Dr. Joung received his MD degree from University of California, Irvine, and completed his intership training in internal medicine and residency training in PM&R at Loma Linda University Medical Center. He is also an experienced acupuncturist and received his acupuncture training at the prestigious UCLA/HELMS Institute. Dr. Joung also has been very active in clinical research, and is a co-author on numberous scientific studies. Recently, he received the honor of presenting his work involving the association of Guillain Barre Syndrome with Small Cell Lung Carcinoma at the American Academy of PMR. He is also an accomplished concert pianist and choral conductor, and has received his music degree from University of California, Irvine. He continues to perform and enjoy in public and personal musical engagements. |
